Weld County, in conjunction with the Town of Firestone, Town of Mead, and City of Longmont, has begun the design for the Weld County Road 26 Trail Alignment Study. This project aims to enhance regional connectivity and outdoor recreational opportunities by designing a multi-use trail along WCR 26 that spans from Union Reservoir east to St. Vrain State Park and extends north along WCR 7 to Mead High School in southwest Weld County.

In August of 2023, Weld County was awarded $900,000 to fund the design of the trail via a grant from the Denver Regional Council of Governments and selected Otak Inc. to design the project and coordination of the trail alignment. Weld County, Mead, Longmont and Firestone each also contributed $25,000 to the project.

The need for this trail alignment study is due to the growing demand for multi-use trails in the area. By accommodating activities such as walking, biking, and running, the project will cater to a diverse range of trail users. The trail alignment study will seek design solutions that provide a safe, accessible, and environmentally friendly transportation and recreation option for trail users.

Weld County residents are welcome to attend the Public Open House on June 18th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mead High School located at 12750 Co Rd 7, Longmont, to learn more, share thoughts, and meet the project team.
