The Weld County Board of Commissioners issued a proclamation this week celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Greeley Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility and recognizing the dedication and hard work of HHW staff and their contributions to a cleaner, safer environment.

Since its establishment in 1994, the facility has offered a safe, convenient and environmentally responsible way for Weld County residents to dispose of hazardous household materials at no cost, keeping these materials out of our landfills, water sources, and ultimately, our communities.

“It's not very often that you get to recognize a program that's been in place for 30 years,” said Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE) Director Jason Chessher. “With 10 million pounds of hazardous waste being diverted from landfills to this program to be disposed of properly, and servicing over 130,000 customers over the course of 30 years — that’s a milestone worth celebrating.”

To mark this important milestone, the Greeley HHW facility will host a special anniversary open house on Saturday, Sept. 21. The event will feature facility tours, giveaways, refreshments and an opportunity for residents to learn more about the services offered by the HHW program.
