New pavement and the removal of an abandoned culvert are the improvements planned for north 11th Ave. between Highway 85 and O St. The Weld County Board of Commissioners has approved a temporary closure for those improvements, which will begin April 23 and last through May 15, 2024.

Over a three-week period, the Weld County Department of Public Works will perform work on the road, which serves as a connection for northbound traffic to connect from 11th Ave. in Greeley to Highway 85 and an exit for southbound traffic on the highway to connect to the corner of 11th Ave. and O St. Beyond removing an abandoned culvert, crews will focus on milling the road’s existing asphalt, applying new asphalt and repaving the driving surface.

“This road has seen its fair share of potholes and cracking,” said Curtis Hall, Director of the Weld County Department of Public Works. “We believe milling and applying new asphalt will improve ride quality and provide a more resilient road to better withstand future traffic demand.”

In preparation for the project, the Weld County Department of Public Works has also replaced several culverts on Weld County Road (WCR) 66 between WCR 37 and Highway 85, which will serve as one part of the detour route. The complete detour route can be viewed on the Weld County Road Advisory Map.

“Both of these improvements serve as an example of our commitment to creating a safe and efficient transportation infrastructure,” said Kevin Ross, Weld County Commissioner Chair. “While many of our projects understandably take several months to complete, the fact repaving the road is scheduled to take only three weeks is exciting, as it lessens the inconvenience of detours.”
