DRIVE SMART Weld County announced Wednesday that it has received a $10,000 grant to help teach teenagers about safe driving. The DRIVE SMART program, created to reduce vehicle injuries and deaths among teens, won State Farm’s 2024 Good Neighbor Citizenship Award.

DRIVE SMART Weld County is a nonprofit community coalition comprising law enforcement, business, insurance, media, concerned citizens, schools, fire departments, and health professionals, working collaboratively to reduce injuries and deaths from traffic crashes.

Weld County has some of the highest motor injuries and deaths in Colorado. The DRIVE SMART program is trying to reduce those numbers. In the 2022-23 school year, DRIVE SMART Weld County reached more than 35,000 teens.

The $10,000 grant will be allocated to student-led safety programs, enabling students to develop and implement safe driving activities and initiatives throughout the school year. Additionally, funds will support Parent of Teen Drivers classes, educating both parents and teens on driver's license laws, insurance requirements, and available discounts.

This grant marks the latest in a series of contributions from State Farm, bringing DRIVE SMART Weld County’s total support to over $175,000 within the past two decades.
