Multiple days of 2025 budget proposal presentations to the Weld County Board of Commissioners ended Tuesday afternoon with presentations by outside agencies.

“Many people don’t realize the county considers and often provides funding to several non-profit agencies throughout the county each year,” said Commissioner Chair Kevin Ross. “It’s always great to hear the proposals from these agencies highlighting the great work they do for county residents.”

The presentations by county departments highlighted not only budgetary requests for 2025 but also efficiencies and cost-reduction considerations for commissioners to review when considering all budget proposals.

“This year is the first year departments were asked to each present their department overview, including how their budgetary requests align with the county’s strategic plan,” said Ross. “It was a great way to connect dots between goals, achievements and requests.”

Also new this year was the addition of a three-reading process for the county’s budget, which will begin in November.

“In previous years, the budget hearings were held in the fall with the board of commissioners approving the budget in December through an emergency ordinance,” said Cheryl Pattelli, Weld County’s Director of Finance. “The addition of the three-reading process to the budget allows time for commissioners and departments to have robust dialogue regarding their requests, and it allows more opportunity for public input.”

Prior to the three-reading process, commissioners will review presentation requests and the county’s finance team will crunch numbers and provide the board with recommendations for the board to consider with regard to the 2025 budget.
