To continue facilitating improvements in municipalities for activities that benefit low- and moderate-income individuals across Weld County, the board of commissioners approved five community improvement projects to be completed in 2024 that were presented by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Advisory Committee on May 15.

CDBG funds will aid Ault in upgrading a water line to service the businesses and residents in the east portion of the town. The project was awarded $240,000. Firestone is expanding its annual Friends of Firestone Day of Service, from one day to two. In 2023, the town partnered with Brothers Redevelopment Inc. and 130 local volunteers to provide minor exterior home improvements for six low- and moderate-income households. In 2024, the town aims to assist 12 to 15 households. The project was awarded $50,000. Platteville’s Lincoln, Riverview, Coronado, and Rogers Farm public parks will soon have accessible sidewalks and ramps. In addition, one new piece of accessible playground equipment will be added. The project was awarded $96,000.

The final two projects approved involve the removal of architectural barriers in accordance with the federal standard for accessibility for individuals with disabilities and older adults by constructing accessible ramps in Evans and Eaton.
• Evans – 36 ramps will be replaced so individuals can access sidewalks. The project was awarded $181,000.
• Eaton – 57 ramps will be replaced to allow individuals in a 60-unit senior housing complex to access community amenities. The project was awarded $180,000.

“By facilitating these low- to moderate-income projects, the CDBG program is helping Weld County communities and the county overall better serve residents,” said Weld County Commissioner Chair Kevin Ross. “It’s been exciting to see the impact of the CDBG program in recent years, and we expect these five projects to add even more efficiencies to our county.”

Based on last year’s allocation, it is estimated the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will award $1,177,685 to the CDBG program to help fund the 2024 projects and pay for CDBG administrative costs now to March 31, 2025.
