Weld County to host e-waste collection event
Published on October 18, 2023
The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE) and the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program, in partnership with IT Refresh, are hosting two drive-thru electronic waste events to collect residents' old, unused, broken, or unwanted electronic devices. The first event will be held in Greeley on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Island Grove Grandstand Arena South Parking Lot. The second event, serving south county residents, will be held in Fort Lupton on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Aims Community College campus.
Accepted items include a wide range of electronic devices, such as computer monitors, laptops, televisions, microwaves, and much more. It's important to note these events strictly cater to residential electronic waste, no business waste will be accepted. No weight or device limit applies, but all waste must fit in a normal residential vehicle and be easily accessible. Trailers will not be allowed.
To manage wait times, traffic, material handling, and staffing requirements, residents are strongly encouraged to reserve a drop-off time for either event on the HHW webpage at weld.gov/go/hhw. Those without a reserved time slot will be allowed to drop off their e-waste if space permits.
“If we are experiencing long lines or wait times, we may ask those without a reservation to leave the line and wait until those with reservations are serviced first,” said HHW Program Coordinator Dan Parkos. “Additionally, if you notice long lines and you did not sign up for a drop-off time, we ask that you please check back later.”
“The volume per participant last year was double what is normally seen at events like this,” said Janice Oldemeyer of IT Refresh. “This year, having some history, we can much better prepare for the large participation and volumes per participant.” Regarding data security, IT Refresh has assured that all data retained in memory devices in electronic equipment and components will be protected from theft or loss, in compliance with the e-Stewards and R2 Standard.
WCDPHE urges all residents to actively participate in these events and contribute to the community's efforts to support responsible e-waste disposal practices. For more information and to sign up for a drop-off time, please visit www.weld.gov/go/hhw.
