Ahead of the countywide CodeRED all-call on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the county has launched a webpage at https://www.weld.gov/go/codeRED. The page explains the benefits of signing up for the emergency notification service and provides answers to many frequently asked questions about it.

“This webpage will serve as a tremendous resource in helping people register for CodeRED and in helping them understand how it works and in what situations they’ll be alerted,” said Roy Rudisill, Director for the Weld County Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

CodeRED is the emergency alert notification system used in Weld County to send address-specific emergency alert notifications, and visitors to the webpage will notice more information devoted to it. There are sections explaining more about how the service works and its importance, detailed instructions on registering, including a how-to video, and answers to some frequently asked questions about how the notification process works. There will also be a widget allowing visitors to see details of recent CodeRED calls issued.

Of course, the ultimate goal of the webpage is to get as many residents registered to receive emergency alerts as possible. Common types of notifications sent by CodeRED include but aren’t limited to evacuation notices and shelter-in-place or lockdown notices. It’s also possible to receive severe weather notices from the National Weather Service, but users must opt-in to receive those alerts when registering for CodeRED. Depending on the options chosen during the sign-up process, those registered will receive alerts via phone, text or email when an emergency is identified near their home or business address.

“In an emergency, there are many things that are impossible to control, such as the severity of weather or sudden changes in weather patterns,” Rudisill said. “However, being aware of changing situations around us makes us more resilient and can lessen the negative impact of an emergency. CodeRED is a great tool that can raise our situational awareness in times of uncertainty, and we encourage everyone to register.”

Enrolling in CodeRED is free and easy and can be done by visiting https://www.weld.gov/go/codeRED or by calling OEM at (970) 304-6540.

CodeRED Tips

When signing up for CodeRED, remember:

  • It’s possible to register multiple addresses and phone numbers. Don’t forget to include work and business addresses and the phone numbers of family members, as alerts sent by CodeRED are address specific.

  • To receive short message service (SMS) text alerts, cellular devices and service must have text messaging enabled.

  • CodeRED messages from Weld County come from three numbers depending on the type of alert:

Emergency alert notifications:
866-419-5000

Community alerts for general notifications:
855-969-4636

Weather alerts warnings:
800-566-9780

  • The all-call is a test. Those who receive a test call are registered for CodeRED. No further action is required.
