As today is World No Tobacco Day, the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE) reaffirms its commitment to promoting tobacco education and prevention in the community. With a clear objective to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and advocate for preventing initiation of tobacco use among young people, the WCDPHE's Tobacco Education and Prevention Program is at the forefront of this important campaign.

World No Tobacco Day is a global initiative to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and the importance of reducing tobacco consumption worldwide. Recognizing the critical role education plays in combating tobacco-related issues, the WCDPHE's Tobacco Education and Prevention Program has successfully implemented evidence-based programs that target various segments of the community including youth, adults, and pregnant/postpartum women.

"Tobacco use remains a significant public health concern, and we are dedicated to reducing its impact in Weld County," said Jason Chessher, Director of the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment. "Through our Tobacco Education and Prevention Program, we strive to equip individuals and communities with the knowledge and resources they need to make healthier choices and create a tobacco-free environment."

Weld County residents are encouraged to join in the observance of World No Tobacco Day and take advantage of the resources offered by the Tobacco Education and Prevention Program. These resources include educational materials, cessation support services, and community outreach programs designed to empower individuals to make informed choices about their health. The WCDPHE also collaborates with the Colorado Quitline, a free service to Colorado residents 18 and older. The Quitline provides special tools, a support team of coaches and nicotine replacement therapy and their expert coaches can talk to you about overcoming common barriers, such as dealing with stress, fighting cravings, coping with irritability, and controlling weight gain. Go to www.coquitline.org or call1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) to learn how to quit tobacco today (available in English and Spanish)
