Monday, the Weld County Board of Commissioners approved the 2024 budget with expenses totaling $491,273,900.
The budget allocates the funding necessary to provide services to residents while also outlining the financial condition of the county, which, heading into 2024, remains excellent.
This year’s budget process featured continued collaboration among the board of commissioners and the Department of Finance and Administration to “provide a comprehensive plan for the future and meet the county’s mission statement: To provide responsive, innovative and cost-effective services,” according to the financial plan message in the 2024 Weld County Budget Book. Care was also taken to not only “bring forward a budget that demonstrates Weld County’s continued creativity, resilience, and commitment to residents, but also a budget shaped by historical decisions and future strategies to continue Weld County’s fiscal stewardship.”
Despite a strong budget, the county will face challenges heading into 2024, which center around the continued fluctuation of oil and gas production, a prime economic driver in Weld County. Keeping projects on schedule despite material shortages and positioning the county to continually be an attractive employer in the face of continued countywide growth are also priorities.
