In an effort to recognize the hard work and dedication of the Weld County Child Support Services staff, as well as their community partners, the Weld County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed August as Child Support Awareness Month.

Child Support Awareness Month is an annual time to raise awareness about a critical income support program that helps millions of children and families. According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, in fiscal year 2022, child support programs nationwide collected $30.5 billion and served 1 in 5 children in the United States.

Commissioner Scott James spoke briefly about the importance of child support through the lens of personal experience. “I appreciate you sticking up for those kids, making sure that responsibilities are held and that kids thrive in their homes,” James said.

The Weld County Child Support Services (CSS) Division understands that families need support on a regular basis to remain self-sufficient, and works to help locate parents, establish paternity, establish child support orders, and enforce child support obligations. CSS provides this help to parents and anyone caring for a child.

CSS also recently received two major awards, “Outstanding Large County” from the Colorado Family Support Council, and a recognition from the State of Colorado for meeting all three C-Stat Measures for 2022.

Some statistics of note for the Weld County Child Support Services Division:

  • Over $10 million dollars have been distributed to families so far in 2023.
  • CSS currently has 8,040 open cases, some with multiple children.
  • CSS has also helped establish a child support order on over 240 cases so far this year.
