Seven Weld County advisory boards accepting applications

Several Weld County advisory boards or commissions are in immediate need of members. The Planning Commission is seeking a Weld County resident who lives in School District Boundary 3 (Evans, Greeley west of 14th Avenue). The commission conducts hearings and advises the Board of County Commissioners regarding land-use planning, zoning administration and subdivision development within the county. The commission also reviews and makes recommendations to the commissioners on land-use applications and amendments to policies and regulations. The commission meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m.
The Board of Public Health conducts hearings and considers septage applications and on-site wastewater treatment system variances as well as receives reports from the Health Department Director and staff on programs and health issues affecting Weld County residents. Time commitment is one to two hours per month; the board meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at 9 a.m., except December. Anyone with an interest in Public and Environmental Health who lives in School District Boundary 4 (Evans, Greeley east of 14th Avenue, Kersey, Gill or Barnesville area) is encouraged to apply.
The seven-member Fair Board needs a resident who is excited about working with agriculture, livestock and helping with the Weld County Fair. The board oversees the fair by setting policy and managing volunteer committees associated with the fair. The board works closely with Weld County’s CSU Extension Office, 4-H Clubs and FFA chapters. Time commitment is two to three hours per month. The board meets the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m.
The Workforce Development Board seeks two business representatives and one workforce representative. This board is business-led with most of its members representing the private sector and other members representing organized labor, community-based organizations, education, economic development organizations, other state agencies and individuals with disabilities. The board is charged with identifying regional workforce needs, developing and implementing systems in response and providing overall direction for Employment Services of Weld County.
The Extension Advisory Council is seeking a resident with crop science experience. The council advises the Extension Office regarding planning, implementation and evaluation for various areas including 4-H Youth Development, Livestock, Horticulture, Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences and Nutrition. Meetings occur bi-monthly at noon.
The Building Trades Advisory Committee needs four members to join as representatives of the following: Weld County Builders Association, Home Builder’s Association of Colorado, a large independent general contractor and a heating contractor. The committee reviews proposed changes to the “Building Regulations” chapter of the Weld County Code and provide recommendations to the building division and board of commissioners regarding those changes. This committee generally meets twice per year.
One resident who works in the electrical, plumbing, mechanical or heating trade is wanted on the Building Code Board of Appeals. This board determines the suitability of alternate methods of construction and interprets provisions of the Weld County Building Code. The board meets once per year.
