Project applications being accepted for CDBG program
Published on September 27, 2022
Weld County’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is accepting applications for community improvement projects from municipalities and the county starting Oct. 1, 2022.
Apply at https://www.weldgov.com/Government/County-Programs/Community-Development-Block-Grant. The application deadline is Dec. 31, 2022.
“This program reaches more people and communities than simply the ones where projects are completed,” said Commissioner Chair Scott James. “The benefits of these projects ripple out to other communities and people to better the entire Weld County community.”
After applications are submitted, CDBG program staff will review each with the CDBG Advisory Committee and recommend projects to the Board of County Commissioners. The next program year, along with allocation of approximately $1 million of entitlement funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is anticipated to start April 1, 2023, and run through March 31, 2024. Weld County continues to receive an entitlement allocation because it is considered to be urban — meaning it has a population of 200,000 or more. More than 300,000 residents live in Weld County.
Projects funded with CDBG funds must address one of the following national objectives: principally benefit low-and moderate-income persons; prevent and/or eliminate slums and blight; and address an urgent need. At least 70% of the CDBG funds received by Weld County must principally benefit low- and moderate-income persons.
Originally, $310,000 in funding was supposed to be allocated to a fourth project from the 2022 HUD allocation; however, that project fell through due to not being within the qualifications. A separate application can be submitted for communities wishing to use these funds toward a development project in their area.
