August is Child Support Awareness Month
Published on August 03, 2022
To reaffirm Weld County's commitment to strengthening families by providing child support services and recognizing the dedicated work of the Weld County Child Support Services Division staff and its community partners, the Board of County Commissioners has proclaimed August 2022 as Child Support Awareness Month.
"We appreciate the amazing team that makes up the child support division. They do a wonderful job of assisting and coordinating the financial stability of our children and youth," said Tami Grant, Deputy Director of the Weld County Department of Human Services (DHS). "Distributing regular child support payments to families helps promote financial stability, strengthens families by reducing the need for public assistance benefits and increases the ability for families to thrive."
The child support program reinforces the position that all parents must take responsibility for the financial support of their children. Orders to pay child support can be entered voluntarily, by the child support team, or by court order. Child support is essential to the overall well-being of a child and there are child support laws and services to ensure the proper functioning of this system and that each child is well looked after.
Weld County recognizes and honors child support's vital role in providing financial aid to families while also understanding the importance of awareness of child support services to the community.
"Some of the work our child support staff does is tough, but they do a remarkable job of making sure that financial support is being upheld for the children of Weld County,” said Weld County Board of Commissioners Chair Scott James. “They work together with court clerks, judges and county attorneys to ensure the end goal is met — to help kids become happy, healthy and productive citizens of Weld County."
The Weld County Child Support Services Division supports parents and anyone caring for a child. Staff can help locate parents, establish paternity, initiate a child support order and enforce child support obligations.
Weld Child Support Services Division stats from January - June 2022 include:
- Total child support collections distributed to families: $11 million
- New cases initiated: 700
- Orders modified: 180
- Phone calls taken: 7,000 plus
