Local businesses, young adults honored by state

Ten local businesses and two young adults received awards from the 2020 Governor’s Summer Job Hunt and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment for their work and partnership with Employment Services of Weld County.

Despite endless challenges faced throughout 2020, ten local businesses received awards for their continued support of youth in work-based learning activities, providing valuable employment opportunities for young workers. As written on the award, “Young people can develop into confident, creative and intelligent leaders if the opportunities to succeed are available. By investing in these critical years, you have greatly affected the future of our communities.” The following local businesses received awards for their support, engagement and commitment to work with 14- to 17-year-old youth:

  • Adventure Dental, Vision and Orthodontics
  • Ben’s Furniture
  • Bulldog Pub and Grub
  • Cazadores Mexican Grill
  • Exodus Moving and Storage
  • Colorado Shooting Sports LLC
  • Greeley Subaru
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore Greeley
  • Hill N’ Park Community Church
  • Winchell’s Donuts

Two young adults, Nydia Salazar and Abigail Gauna, were nominated by Employment Services of Weld County and also received awards as youth participants of the 2020 Governor’s Summer Job Hunt program.

Awardees are typically honored each year at an awards ceremony at the Governor’s Residence at the Boettcher Mansion in Denver, but that was unable to take place this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Governor’s Summer Job Hunt has connected young people ages 14 to 24 with work experience since 1981. Generations of Colorado workers — more than half a million — got their start through the program with employers who were willing to give young people a chance.
