Applications now being accepted for Ad Hoc Charter Review Committee

The Weld County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications from Weld County residents interested in serving on the Ad Hoc Charter Review Committee.

This committee, which will be made up of nine Weld County residents, will be charged with reviewing the Home Rule Charter, holding a series of public meetings to gather input from Weld County residents with regard to the charter and submitting to the commissioners any proposed amendments to the charter.

Members of the committee will:

  • Represent geographical areas from across Weld County • Hold public meetings throughout Weld County to gather input from Weld County residents
  • Make sure the charter meets the requirements of the state constitution including Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) and statutory requirements
  • Review the charter to identify and recommend repeal of obsolete items and to address out-of-date items that need revision
  • Draft the language for any proposed amendments to the charter and submit those proposals to the Board of Commissioners no later than July 20, 2018
  • Items IA and IB from 2017s ballot will not be discussed or suggested to be repealed

Following the application deadline, the Commissioners will review the applications and set up interviews beginning the week of February 26.

Weld County is one of only two Colorado counties to have a Home Rule Charter. The Charter, which was originally written and adopted by the residents of Weld County in 1975, has been amended 18 times.
