Mike Bedell, Senior Engineer, and Tina Booton, Weed Division Supervisor for the Weld County Department of Public Works, were each recent recipients of awards commemorating their exceptional work. Mike Bedell was presented with the Gold Award for Excellence in Concrete Pavement from the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) for outstanding design and construction of paving along the Weld County Parkway project. Tina Booton was presented with the Partnership Award from the Colorado Weed Management Association for her collaboration with the US Forest Service on the Pawnee National Grasslands. “We have an exceptional Public Works team,” said Weld County Commissioner Chair Julie Cozad. “The awards that Mike and Tina received are proof of that. We are incredibly lucky to have them both.” The award presented to Mike Bedell is intended to honor quality concrete pavements, and potential recipients of this award from across the United States and Canada are reviewed by ACPA’s panel of 44 judges before winners are selected. Due to his oversight of the design, bidding, and construction of the Weld County Parkway Project, Bedell’s work was determined by the ACPA board of judges to be of exceptional quality. Tina Booton was granted the Partnership Award for her efforts to combat invasive weed species on the Pawnee National Grasslands. She worked specifically to eradicate the Diffuse Knapweed and Dalmatian Toadflax species in the area, and together with the US Forest Service has provided local trainings to help people learn to spot and manage these noxious weed species. Thanks to this partnership, Booton and her team have been able to manage invasive weed species across jurisdictional boundaries on the grasslands.
