County Pipeline Discussion Will Lead to Improved Regulations

As the county begins to review its current pipeline regulations, the Board of County Commissioners invites the public (residents, business owners, and industry representatives alike) to attend an open meeting on August 8 to help further the review and discussion of the county’s policies around this type of infrastructure.

The meeting, which will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., will take place at the Weld County Administration Building located at 1150 O St. in Greeley.

Discussion during this meeting will focus on the consideration of possible changes to the county’s current pipeline regulations as found under section 23-1-90 of the Weld County Code including the potential expanding of the definitions to incorporate flowlines and gathering lines. Other topics to be discussed will include pipeline mapping requirements, pipelines that carry produced water, the size of pipelines and the hoop stress for natural gas pipelines.

“It is important for us to make sure the public, business and the industry participate in the discussion,” said Weld County Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer, coordinator for the county’s Planning Department. “The energy industry touches us all in Weld County – in one way or another. We need to make sure we all work together the best we can to continually improve efficiencies and safety.”

Staff from the county’s planning department will be in attendance to help answer questions and take comments and suggestions resulting from the discussion.

“We hope people are able to join us for this meeting,” said Commissioner Cozad, Chair of the Board. “The public’s involvement in this process is welcomed.”
