Tina Powell, the Weld County Regional Communications Center Manager, was recently one of 22 graduates of the Certified Public Safety Executives (CPE) Program, earning her the prestigious professional designation of Certified Public Safety Executive. This program was created by APCO International (the world’s oldest and largest public safety communications organization) and was designed for public safety communications professionals who aspire to executive leadership positions to elevate their professionalism and enhance their individual performance.
The program consists of two 12-week online courses and an intensive nine-day capstone seminar at the APCO headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida, in which the participants are encouraged to explore topics that include management versus leadership, models and theories of leadership, leadership styles, public safety leadership issues, as well as methods for executing and managing change. Powell graduated from the first ever CPE program, and although the 22 program participants represented 13 states and Canada, Powell was the only participant from the state of Colorado.
“We are very proud of Tina and thank her for her dedication to public safety and her service to the residents of Weld County,” said Commissioner Chair Julie Cozad. “The program is very selective, and it speaks very highly of Tina that she was accepted to and graduated from the program as Colorado’s only participant.”
