In conjunction with National Adoption Day on November 18, the Weld County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed November 17, 2017, to be Weld County Adoption Day. On that day, a special celebration will take place wherein 5 children from Weld County will be adopted by their forever families. This proclamation and celebration are enacted in the hopes of encouraging other dedicated individuals to make a powerful difference in the life of a child through adoption. “It is of utmost importance to provide children with safe, loving and permanent families,” said Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer, Coordinator for the Department of Human Services. “Our children need stable, supportive role models in order to grow into productive and successful citizens. We are so fortunate these families have come forward and committed themselves to these 5 children, and we hope that more families will step forward to support our other children that are still waiting to be adopted.” Currently, more than 110,000 children in the United States are waiting to be adopted, of which 275 reside in Colorado. Weld County itself has almost 20 children that are in need of forever families and legal permanency. Similar celebrations will take place in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico, and are part of a national effort to raise awareness about the importance of adoption.
