Communications Specialists at Weld County Regional Communications Center are provided the Public Safety Telecommunicator certification (PST) through the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and the Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED).  Employees also have the opportunity to earn other industry related certifications, such as Communications Training Officer (CTO) and Emergency Dispatch Quality Improvement Specialist (EMD-Q).

• CritiCall Testing: CritiCall is an online, simulation based test that assesses skills that are necessary in the Communications Specialist and Communications Call-Taking positions.  The CritiCall test is pass/fail.  A passing test is required to move forward in the hiring process.

On average the hiring process takes ten weeks to complete. 

The dedicated Training Department at Weld County Regional Communications Center hosts a complete and comprehensive training academy, which prepares new employees for a position in the Communications Center.  The training curriculum is provided through classroom instruction, utilizing training databases that simulate the systems and software used in the Communications Center, and on the job training.  All required certifications are provided during initial training.
