2025 Legislative Session

County commissioners not only work on policy at the local level but also actively participate at the state level through the legislative process. Whether they bring bills forward for consideration or testify for or against proposed legislation, the role commissioners play in the legislative process is to ensure the interests of Weld County residents are heard and considered at the state level.

Each week, commissioners, county elected officials and department heads meet to discuss newly proposed bills and their impact on Weld County. Commissioners will take one of five positions on a proposed bill:

• Support: Commissioners support the proposed bill as introduced.
• Oppose: Commissioners oppose the proposed bill as introduced.
• Amend: Commissioners would support the proposed bill if amendments were made, which would make the bill better suited for Weld County needs. Commissioners work with the county attorney, department heads and a hired lobbying firm to submit the proposed amendments.
• Monitor: Commissioners agree to monitor the proposed bill as more information is gathered as to whether or not the proposed bill would have an impact on Weld County.

The following sections contain a list of proposed bills for the 2025 legislation the board of commissioners is reviewing and their position on that bill.
