Program for Medicare Beneficiaries

Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)

This program pays the Medicare premium for qualified applicants and also pays the 20% co-insurance for Medicare expenses. 

Special Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB)

This program pays the Medicare premium only.

QI-1

This is an expansion of the SLMB program and pays the Medicare premium only.

Resource Limits

Effective January 01, 2024 resource/asset limit for all of the above programs is $10,930 for a single individual and $17,130 for a couple. A primary residence and one automobile are not countable.

QWDI

Pays the Medicare premium and any other Medicare cost-sharing expenses determined necessary. Effective January 01, 2024 the resource/asset limit for QWDI is $4,000.00 for an individual and $6,000 for a couple. A primary residence and one automobile are not countable. 

Income Guidelines

Income guidelines change every year.
Recipients must be eligible for Medicare Part A.
