Youth employment and training programs provide various opportunities for education, training, and work-based learning through several activities, services, and programs which can assist youth with job readiness and prepare youth for the workforce.

Chafee

Chafee logo with Chafee Foster care independent living programThe Chafee program provides young adults independent living skills through fun and engaging workshops, field trips and one-on-one meetings under the direction of a Chafee Youth Case Manager. In addition, young adults will identify and pursue personal and independent living goals.

Services include:

  • Basic Cooking Skills
  • Money Management Skills
  • Leadership Skills
  • Career Pathways Exploration
  • Workshops
  • Adult Mentoring
  • Housing Resources
  • Community Resources
  • Educational Guidance
  • Social Activities
  • Field Trips

Eligibility:

  • Between the ages of 14 and 23
  • Involvement with the Weld County Foster Care System for a minimum of six months

How to apply:

Pillars of Successful Independence (PSI)

Foster care and kinship youth, through various activities such as workshops, one-on-one support, and socialization activities have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of resources and lifelong skills to better prepare them for independence. 

PSISupport foster and Kinship youth to gain the skills needed to prepare for their future independence!

  • Career Pathways Exploration
  • Field Trips
  • Workshops
  • Adult Mentoring
  • Money Management Skills
  • Leadership Skills
  • Follow-up Services

Eligibility:

  • Between the ages of 13 1/2 and 15
  • In the Weld County Foster or Kinship Care System

Resources for Independence, Success and Employment (RISE)

RISE logo

The RISE program provides young adults formerly in Foster Care an opportunity to work one-on-one with a Youth Programs Case Manager to establish goals and work towards successful independent living.

Services include: 

  • Housing Resources
  • Community Resources
  • Educational Guidance
  • Public Assistance Support
  • Mental Health/Substance Abuse Referrals
  • Money Management Skills
  • Mentoring
  • Career Pathways Exploration
  • Job Readiness

Eligibility:

  • Between the ages of 18 and 21
  • Former involvement in the Foster Care System

Youth Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

WIOATraditional high school not for you? Want to attend college for a short-term certificate? Need a career, not just a job? We can help!

To be eligible for the WIOA Youth Programs, you must be:

  • Between the ages of 16 and 21 and currently enrolled in school
  • OR between the ages of 16 and 24 and out of school.

Applicants may also need to meet at least one of the following categories:

  • Deficient in Basic Literacy Skills
  • School Dropout
  • Offender
  • Homeless/Runaway
  • Foster Child
  • Pregnant or Parenting Youth
  • Individual with a Disability
  • Low Income TANF/FOOD Stamp Recipient

Services include:

  • Comprehensive Guidance/Counseling
  • Alternative School/HSE
  • Employment/Work-Based Learning
  • Occupational Skills
  • Training
  • Study Skills Training
  • Dropout Prevention
  • Follow-up Services
