What should I include in my application?

It is recommended to include a resume and cover letter but not required. Some positions will specify if they require a resume and cover letter on the job announcement. A resume usually provides more detailed information and may be used to compare information that you put on the application. The cover letter gives you an opportunity to explain why you are interested in this specific position or why you desire to work for Weld County Government or a specific department.

What happens after I apply for a job?

Applications are reviewed by Human Resources and the hiring manager or team within the department you're applying to be part of. Usually, they are reviewed after the position has closed. If the position is "open until filled," applications are generally reviewed weekly. Many, but not all positions, require applicants to take assessments in order to move forward. The Human Resources recruiting team will reach out to the applicant via email to schedule an assessment. 

The types of interviews vary by department. They range from a Microsoft Teams (virtual) screening interview, in-person panel interview, second round interview and/or meet-and-greets. All of the above are also possible for one position. The recruiting team will provide information on what interviews an applicant can expect once the applicant is chosen to move forward.

If you're chosen for the position, a verbal offer from the hiring manager will be given to you. Then, an official offer letter will be sent requesting you sign and return it to the Human Resources department.

Onboarding will be through Workday and you will receive notification to begin completing required new hire documents.

How long does the process take?

Timing really depends on the position. Some positions have several steps before an applicant is made an offer.
