Business Hazardous Waste Disposal

Businesses are required to dispose of their hazardous waste in an environmentally sound way. To this end, the Weld County Household Hazardous Waste Program felt it was important to provide a resource for the correct disposal of hazardous waste from businesses. The program can accept waste from Very Small Quantity Generators (VSGQ) or it can provide a valuable resource to those businesses classified as Small Quantity Generators (SQG) or Large Quantity Generators (LQG).

The Weld County Business Hazardous Waste Disposal Program provides a safe and affordable disposal/recycling option for VSQGs in Weld County. This voluntary program is fee-based and operated at the Weld County Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Greeley.

Hours and Location

The Weld County Business Hazardous Waste Disposal Program will accept waste by appointment only and only at the Greeley facility.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I go over my weight total for the month, but not the year, am I still a VSQG?
No, you will have gone over the weight restrictions for being a VSQG. You would now be considered a Small Quantity Generator (SQG) and would have to adhere to all the rules and regulations that the state requires of an SQG.

What is acutely hazardous waste?
An acutely hazardous waste exhibits any of the characteristics identified in 6 CCR 1007-3, Section 261, Subpart C and is fatal to humans or animals in low doses or can cause or contribute to an increase in serious irreversible, or incapacitating reversible, illness. All P listed wastes are acutely hazardous wastes. In addition, specified Dioxin wastes (F020, F021, F022, F023, F026 and F027) are acutely hazardous, 6 CCR 1007-3, Sections 261.11 and 261.33.

How long will it take me to drop off my waste?
Businesses dropping off wastes will be expected to spend between 30 and 45 minutes at our facility. This time will include unloading of wastes, filling out paperwork, testing materials to assure proper identification, and any time spent for other related items.

Why do you charge for business waste?
The Household Hazardous Waste Program only receives funding for Weld County residents and, therefore, has no money in the budget to dispose of business waste. The price we charge must not only include the disposal cost but also the time and resources spent dealing with VSQG waste.

How am I billed?
Once you have filled out the application form and sent it back to us, we will decide if we can accept your wastes. If we can, we will schedule an appointment for you to drop off your wastes. Once you have dropped off your wastes and are given a receipt, our department will send you a bill at the end of the month in which you dropped off your wastes.
