We do not charge Weld County residents for dropping off their HHW. The HHW program is funded by the county. We do, however, charge businesses for wastes they drop off.
The HHW program is for all Weld County residents.
There is a 200-pound limit for each drop off. If you have more than 200 pounds, you can choose to split the load up and drop off the typical household maximum once per collection day or pay for the disposal cost for the amount in excess of 200 pounds.
You can show up at one of our two permanent facilities at any time during our normal businesses hours. We will not accept waste brought to us in containers larger than five gallons. All containers must also be intact and not leaking. Please do not bring your hazardous waste to us in plastic bags. We must be able to see all waste that is brought in, and we will not sort through bags or boxes to determine if your items are acceptable.
*Mixing different types of household hazardous waste together in the same container can be dangerous to you and to our HHW staff.
*Please keep used oil free of debris and contaminants.
It usually takes as long as it takes the HHW staff to unload the car. You also will have to fill out a short form. Average drop-off time is 5-10 minutes.
No, if the products are completely used or paint is dry, you can dispose of the container with your regular trash. Please make sure to leave the lids off of the containers to show the trash hauler the items are completely empty. You may also refer to the disposal instructions on the product or container label.
The goal of the Household Hazardous Waste program is to reduce the amount of hazardous materials entering our county landfills. The HHW program tries to choose the most environmentally friendly disposal option available based on type of disposal versus cost of disposal. The Weld County HHW program wants to assure its residents we do try to recycle or reuse as many items as possible.
