Food safety is a public health priority.  Consumers can play a role by reporting incidences of poor food safety practices they observe while dining out or cases of foodborne illness.  Poor food safety practices include absence of handwashing, food not cooked to the correct temperature, food not held to the proper temperature (cold foods at 41°F or below, hot foods at 135°F or above), evidence of pest infestation, foreign objects found in food, no hot water, sewage back-up, etc.
