Air Quality Program The Environmental Health Services Division conducts inspections of stationary sources of air pollution, responds to air quality complaints, and issues open burning permits in Weld County to protect public health and the natural environment. We also conduct outreach to the general public to encourage radon testing in homes.
Animal-Related Diseases The Environmental Health Services Division conducts surveillance and investigations of zoonotic (animal-related) diseases to limit impact to Weld County residents.
Biosolids and Septage The Environmental Health Services Division permits biosolids (domestic sewage sludge) and domestic septic sludge (septage) for beneficial use in Weld County, to assure compliance with Weld County Code, and conducts inspections of active biosolids application sites to verify compliance with state regulations.
Board of Public Health The Board of Public Health reviews and makes recommendations regarding biosolids and septage applications, as well as variances for On-Site Wastewater Treatment Systems (septic systems).
Communicable Disease Program (CDP) Investigates communicable diseases, responds to outbreaks, provides education and referrals, and documents disease incidence.
Food Safety Weld County promotes a safe dining experience by conducting regular inspections of licensed retail food establishments in Weld County.
Business Hazardous Waste Disposal Businesses are required to dispose of their hazardous waste in an environmentally sound way. To this end, the Weld County Household Hazardous Waste Program felt it was important to provide a resource for the correct disposal of hazardous waste from businesses.
Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Weld County residents can dispose of household hazardous waste for free at one of two facilities operated by the county. The county also offers commercial hazardous waste disposal for Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs) in Weld County for a fee.
Health Inspection Programs The Health Inspection Program focuses on the safe and healthy operation of child care centers, body art facilities, schools, and ambulance services.
Laboratory The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment's laboratory supports community health by providing high-quality water testing services in northern Colorado.
Environmental Land Use Planning The Environmental Health Services Division reviews proposed commercial and residential developments, and provides expertise and testimony at Weld County Planning Commission and Board of Weld County Commissioners land use hearings regarding public health issues of proposed developments.
Lead Program The Environmental Health Services Division conducts home investigations involving children with elevated blood lead levels.
Septic Systems (On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems) The Environmental Health Services Division oversees the permitting process of onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS), with flows less than 2,000 gallons per day, including site evaluations, design reviews, and inspections.
Waste Program The Environmental Health Services Division interacts with compost and solid waste facilities through land use planning, site inspections, and complaint investigations.
