All Military Exempt License Plates are available for passenger cars, trucks that do not exceed 16,000 pounds empty weight, noncommercial or recreation vehicles, motor homes, and motorcycles. First sets of these license plates are exempt from taxes and fees at the time of issuance and at each renewal. Second and additional sets for most plate types may be issued but the appropriate fees and taxes will apply. All of the following plates are unlimited except for the Disabled Veteran Handicapped License Plate; only two sets are allowed per qualifying customer. Only the first set is exempt from taxes and fees. The vehicle must be titled and registered in the qualifying veteran’s name to qualify. Please see the specifics below for each plate type.

Medal of Honor and all five Medal of Valor License Plates can be applied for using the DR 2002 Military License Plate Application. These applications will be processed as normal if they meet the requirements. Along with the completed DR 2181, the veteran will also need to submit a DD 214 or military orders demonstrating they have been awarded the medal of the plate for which they are applying. Also, proof of insurance, emissions (if applicable), and proof of ownership in the veteran’s name on the vehicle they wish to register with these plates, will all be required. All Medal of Honor and Medal of Valor plates are Print on Demand.
