Our health can be influenced by many factors, including our genes, family history, environment, and lifestyle. While we can't change things like our genes or surroundings, we do have the power to make choices in other areas that can boost our overall health. Join us for this five-part program where we’ll explore science-backed recommendation on how to care for both your brain and body! It is highly recommended that you attend the whole program, though it is not required.

Healthy Living for Brain and Body – April 24, 11:00 a.m. to noon

Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research program of the Alzheimer's Association is designed to provide current research and practical information on ways to help you age well. The program is intended for individuals of any age who are looking for information on ways to age as well as possible. It is not designed for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. The program begins with an overview of how humans age and how the brain works. It is then organized to provide information about current research (what we know) and practical strategies (what we can do).

Nutrition for Older Adults – May 1, 11:00 a.m. to noon

Learn how to make healthy food choices to prevent or control health issues and maintain your independence! Topics include nutrients that become of greater concern as we age and their food sources, why older adults are at an increased risk of dehydration and how to avoid it, and challenges older adults may face in achieving good nutrition and strategies to overcome these.

Sleep – May 8, 11:00 a.m. to noon

Dr. Erin Kishman, post-doc fellow at the Sleep and Metabolism Laboratory at the Colorado State University will be the guest presenter.  Description to follow.

The Mediterranean Diet – May 15, 11:00 a.m. to noon

What do vegetables, olive oil, red wine, fish, and whole grains all have in common? They are all key foods in the Mediterranean diet. Many long-term health benefits have been associated with following a Mediterranean lifestyle, including weight loss, reduced blood pressure and cholesterol, and reduced risk for various chronic diseases. But it’s not about cutting calories and restricting foods like many popular diet trends in America today. Rather, it’s about enjoying foods you like and eating them mindfully and leisurely. This workshop will help to answer your questions about key characteristics of the Mediterranean lifestyle and how you can incorporate Mediterranean foods and habits into your life! Includes recipes and recipe demonstrations.

Hypertension – May 22, 11:00 a.m. to noon

Learn about what blood pressure is, why it’s important to control it, and steps you can take to manage it. This includes a discussion on the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension or the DASH Eating Plan.
